The online market is fast becoming the point where Lagosians
visit to purchase items. Shopping online is easy, fast and is less
stressful which is why Lagosians shop online.
The advent of online market however has not overshadowed Lagosians’
interest in physical markets. In fact, it does not look as if the
physical markets are competing with any other market as Lagosians still
flock to markets. There are some markets in Lagos that regulate specific
market days and the crowd on those days are always bursting to the
seam.
While the online market has been able to capture a lot of customers,
Lagosians still prefer the physical market and take every opportunity to
shop in one.
Here are 10 reasons why Lagosians prefer physical markets to online markets
Bargain
If there is something Lagosians love to do in a market, it is to
haggle and try to get the best bargain. Some Lagosians are adept at
negotiating and trying to pay the least price for an item. They know how
to put two items together and ask for a reduced price. The physical
market provides this opportunity while the online market does not.
Colour
Selecting an item especially when colour is of importance is very
tricky when purchasing online. Some Lagosians have complained that the
colours of some items they purchase online sometimes come back a shade
or two different from the one thy want or from what they saw online. One
factor that is responsible for this is that the picture might have been
edited to make it look more beautiful. Lagosians know they are getting
the real thing when they purchase from a physical market.
Texture
The texture of some items might be unknown when purchasing online.
Lagosians prefer to get some items in the physical market because they
can feel and hold the product rather than imagine or assume what it
would look like when delivered.
Size
Another reason Lagosians prefer to go to the physical market
especially when they want to purchase clothing is because of size. It is
almost impossible to get the perfect size when purchasing a readymade
outfit online. It either comes out too big or tight. Lagosians therefore
turn to the physical market to get their outfit as they know they will
be paying for the appropriate size of their outfit.
Time
The wait for an already purchased item can be a daunting task. Most
online markets in Lagos claim they deliver within three to seven days.
While this is true in some cases, some Lagosians have complained that
sometimes, the items do not get delivered on time. The wait can be
frustrating especially if one needs the item at a particular period.
Sample
As important as touching and feeling an item before purchase is to
Lagosians, so is sampling the item when possible. Lagosians like to get a
strong feel of the item being purchased so that they will be convinced
they are getting the preferred choice.
Delivery
Delivery can pose a challenge when a purchase has been made online.
Sometimes, you might not be available to pick up delivery or in a
different place t the period of delivery. This can be frustrating which
is why some Lagosians prefer to go to the physical when the time is
available to make their purchase.
Disappointment
Some Lagosians have complained about being disappointed about the
items they purchase online. Sometimes, they complain about the price of
the items and that the item delivered was below their expectation.
Quality
The quality of items purchased online sometimes might not match
buyer’s expectation. Some Lagosians can tell the quality of an item on
the spur and some require a little physical examination before the
quality is ascertained. For example, some people can tell if the colour
of a fabric will fade by just brushing the tip with liquid. This is
impossible when purchasing online so some Lagosians prefer to do it the
traditional way.
Cancelled Order
Sometimes, orders are cancelled after purchases have been made
online. This sometimes happens when an item is out of stock or
unavailable. Sometimes, a person might not even get a message that an
order has been cancelled. This can be annoying especially when plans
have been made around the item.
