Daily Times reports that a source from the presidency has disclosed that Buhari is looking for Kachikwu’s replacement as he cannot be a minister and still hold the position of the NNPC boss.
According to Daily Post, the president has already picked out three candidates, including deputy managing director of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), Isa Mohammed Inuwa, who used to work as a group general manager of corporate services in the NNPC.
The race to succeed the NNPC boss began after the president had sent his name as a ministerial nominee to the Senate. After the successful screening, Kachikwu is expected to emerge as the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, a ministry that Buhari will keenly supervise.
In August, Kachikwu was competing with two other candidates (Inuwa and Ahmadu-Kida Musa, the general manager of Total E&P Nigeria Limited) for NNPC GMD post.
Buhari has reportedly added one more name to contest with Inuwa and Musa for the top job.
Meanwhile, the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has been mandated to review the profiles of the three nominees and make a recommendation to the president.
